Today saw the first of our 2007/8 Winter League Series, and what a day it was.
Firstly it was like a Summer's day with a temperature of about 17°C and a light breeze with no rain it was the start of an eventful day.
Due to holidays, work and other commitments we had only thirteen members fish today. We had a lazy day having 'all-in' at 10.00am and fished til' 3.00pm.
After only a few minutes we heard cursing from Neil Turner as he had just snapped his pole. However a quick modification soon had him fishing again, although he will need to purchase a new section (A wallet emptier). Neil soon got back into his rhythm and finished in a strong second place.
Alan Lamb was 'Mr Consistency' again finishing in third place.
Bill O'Keefe saw action with the loss of a couple of rigs. He did bounce back to finish fourth in the match.
Everyone caught today, some more than others.
Adam Hill got the recognised first biggest fish of this new 2007/8 season with a nice 7lb 6oz Mirror Carp, from down the side of all places! Well done Adam. Let's see how long that weight stays number one.
Highlight today was that at long last the 'Curse of the Golden Peg' has been lifted......Yes after almost five years and about seventy matches (excluding non league events), we are pleased to say Phil Clare our Match Secretary had a blinder of a day, getting Golden Peg AND he won the match! That is £200 now tucked in his pocket, along with the pools money for the match win which was £13.
After all that excitement we need a lie down, so we will see you at the next Winter League match which takes place on Saturday 27th October at Blundell's Farm......Let's see if the curse returns!
